Sacred Lisbon: San Vicente Monastery, Santo António and Cathedral with Tickets
Sacred Lisbon combines art, walking through traditional neighborhoods, photography, history, legends and unique panoramic views in the heart of Lisbon in an unforgettable cultural tour.
Discover Sacred Lisbon, an essential tour to understand the history, religion and art of the Portuguese capital from the Reconquest to the present day. This Lisbon walking tour connects three of the city's most emblematic monuments: the São Vicente de Fora Monastery, the Santo António Church and the Lisbon Cathedral (Cathedral).
The itinerary begins at the Monastery of São Vicente de Fora, founded after the conquest of Lisbon in 1147 and dedicated to Saint Vincent, the city's patron saint. This monumental complex is one of the great references of Portuguese religious heritage. It stands out for its extraordinary collection of baroque tiles, its solemn cloisters, the polychrome marble sacristy, the 12th century medieval cistern and the royal pantheons of the Bragança dynasty and the Patriarchs of Lisbon.
At the top of the monastery is a panoramic rooftop viewpoint, one of Lisbon's best kept secrets, with 360-degree views of the city and the Tagus River, offering one of the most spectacular views of the historic center.
This place also has a profound spiritual value: Saint Anthony of Lisbon was formed here, who lived in the monastery when he belonged to the Augustinian order and lived in this complex before becoming one of the most venerated saints in the world.
The experience continues at the Igreja de Santo António, built on the place where, according to tradition, the patron saint of Lisbon was born. Built on its former family home, it is today one of the city's main centers of devotion and a key point of Lisbon's spiritual identity.
The tour ends at the majestic Sé de Lisboa (Cathedral), the oldest church in the capital, started in 1147 after the Christian conquest. Of Romanesque origin, it has evolved with Gothic and Baroque elements over the centuries. Its interior houses the Sé Treasury Museum, as well as relics of Saint Vincent and Saint Anthony. From its surroundings, there is also access to a terrace with views over the historic center and the Tagus River, one of the most representative panoramic views of Lisbon.
